The 2023-2024 Serie A in stats

The main figures behind Atalanta's lead season

Winding up on June 2 with the Atalanta v Fiorentina rescheduling held at the Gewiss Stadium, the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM saw the Nerazzurri once again play a title role and close the season in 4th: Champions League football was the writing on the wall for Gasperini’s men, who not only booked their UCL ticket with two games to spare (before hosting Torino and Fiorentina) but also made it even clearer by winning the Europa League (which guarantees a place in next season’s Champions League).

With 41 points earned at “Fort Gewiss Stadium”, only once before in their history had Atalanta garnered a higher domestic tally considering the 3-points-per-win rule as our rationale: in due proportions, 48 points were claimed in the 1947/48 campaign.

Having racked up 39 points as a result of 12 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses, and scored a whopping 42 goals in the second half, only Inter have bested Atalanta (46 points and 45 goals) in the Serie A’s second round.

Leading the Serie A chart for most goals scored from outside of the box with 13, only Manchester City and PSG (tied on 15) have done better than Atalanta in Europe’s Big-5 leagues this season.

With his 12 goals scored in 1,459 minutes played, Gianluca Scamacca has claimed runner-up honours as the Serie A’s second-best double-digit scorer of the tournament just ended in terms of scoring average: only bested by Lautaro Martinez’s goal every 111 minutes, the black-and-blue number 90 found the back of the net every 122 minutes instead. Additionally, thanks to his goal contribution of 18 goals (12 nets scored and 6 assists), Gianluca was the best Italian player scoring-wise.

Ademola Lookman was the only player to reach double figures in goals scored at home in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign, netting 10 goals at the Gewiss Stadium.

With 12 goals to his name Teun Koopmeiners closed the season 3 nets shy of Ruud Gullit’s seasonal record, a best established back in the 1993/94 campaign when the midfielder became the best Dutch seasonal Serie A scorer in his Sampdoria days.
Teun is also the Serie A midfielder flaunting the best scoring figures “behind the enemy lines” in 2023/24: 10 goals out of his 12-net bounty were scored away from Bergamo (amounting to 83% of the grand total). Moreover, no other midfielder has been on a longer scoring spree this season as TK7 featured the scoreboard for 5 b-t-b games between January and February.

Out of the 15 Serie A players to have favoured at least 20 goals (scored+ assists) in all competitions this season, Charles de Ketelaere is the freshest of the batch: the 2001s’ forward bagged 14 nets and provided 11 key passes.
